ScreenToGif 2.5 Crashing and not starting correctly

description

Hi.

I've been using ScreenToGif for a while across all my machines.

Today I tried to replace my existing ScreenToGif.exe (which I located at C:\Program Files (x86)\ScreenToGif) with 2.5 (which I renamed to ScreenToGif.exe, as I always do...I have a short cut on the taskbar for it).

My machine is Win10 14393.693 x64 (latest released). Has all updates, etc.

When I try to open this, it fails immediately with the same issue as this: https://screentogif.codeplex.com/workitem/114

On a hunch, I tried to start the executable as admin, and it appears to be a different app...some kind of translator that is downloading language packs?

See attached screenshot.

Hi,

I believe that you downloaded the translator instead of the actual app. The translator needs access to the current folder to download the available translation resources, that's why it fails to start when opening from the Program Files folder.

To download the app, you can use the main website: http://www.screentogif.com/

OK. FYI, the .exe was downloaded via the update message from the previous version.
